Come to Family Movie Night!

Family Movie Night is coming! Please join our Oak community on Friday May 18th at 6 pm to view Wonder, a fantastic movie about kindness and friendship. Bring your sleeping bags, blankets, pillows or cushions to enjoy this free family event. Concessions will be sold to benefit the 5th grade Girl Scouts and Oak families in need. Before the movie, we will be presenting a gift, raised by our Oak students, to the Tonn Family. Thank you for your contribution. We hope to see you there!

Lunch-In

Lunch-In tomorrow will be Baldinelli (personal size cheese pizza and/or corn dogs).
If you are volunteering for grades 1,2, or 3, we ask that you help out from 11:15-11:50.
If you are volunteering for grades 4 or 5, we ask that you help from 11:40-12:15.

Dog Treats for Sale

Support the Kids Care Club members as they sell their homemade dog treats, Tail Waggers!

When: Tuesday, May 8th after school

Where: In front of Oak School

Why: These Kids Care Club members wrote a grant to fund all of the supplies to make their dog treats. All money raised at this sale will go directly to the Humane Society. Please come out and support their efforts! Your dog will thank you, too!

Schools are celebrating national Staff and Teacher Appreciation Week this week. Thank you parents and PTO for making this a truly special week! We are also asking our school community of Twitter users to celebrate with a hashtag #ThankaTeacher and share with @ccsd181.

 

Donation to Foundation honors teachers

D181 families can make a donation to the District 18 Foundation to honor a teacher or staff for Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week. The teacher or staff member will then receive a certificate and a letter with the family’s special message in it.  For teachers and staff to receive their certificate and letter by Friday, May 11, please submit the information to the Foundation by Wednesday, May 9 at 5pm. You can honor as many teachers/staff as you wish with one donation. Here is the link for more information and the submittal form.

Join us for discussion on religious observances and holidays related to the school calendar

 School District 181 is again forming a short-term task force of D181 parents, staff, and community members to discuss observances and holidays and how it relates to the school day and school calendar. Specifically, we hope to share information about critical dates during the school year and to obtain feedback about religious and other observances and holidays.

The meeting will be held Thursday, May 17 at 9 a.m. at the District Administration Center, 115 W. 55thSt. Clarendon Hills, IL. Please click hereto register so we can plan appropriately for space and handouts. If you are unable to attend, but have thoughts you would like to share, as always, we welcome your feedback. Oak Students LOVE Our Earth!

Thank you to Oak Student Council for organizing such a great Earth Week last week! From recycling, learning about ways to help the environment, donating to charity to going waste free…Oak Students did it all! Thank you for helping to raise awareness to protect our Earth!

Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week May 7-11th

Oak School will be recognizing and celebrating Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week on May 7-11th. There are 2 opportunities for parents to volunteer to help make our Oak staff feel special and appreciated.

We will continue from last year a very successful and enjoyable potluck lunch to our teachers on Friday, May 11th. Please sign up Staff Appreciation Potluck 2018 for a dish that you can provide to honor our teachers and staff. You are welcome to stay for the lunch but are not required. Dishes will need to be dropped off by 10:30 (office or staff lounge) so that support staff can begin their lunch at 10:45. If all sign ups are full and you would like to contribute, please email committee chair.

Another fun opportunity to volunteer that doesn’t cost anything is lunchroom duty. Let’s give our support staff a much needed break from lunch supervision for just one day out of the entire school year! The district has approved letting parents fill in. Please consider helping watch the lunchroom only (not recess) on Wednesday, May 9th. Dr. Henrikson will be present to oversee both lunch periods. Order 2018/2019 School Supplies

Online ordering for school supplies for the 2018/19 school year is now open. Online supply ordering is provided as a convenience to parents and students through the PTO. Orders may be placed until June 8th. Supplies will be shipped directly to Oak School and will be ready to go for your children on the 1st day of school!

Please note that the PTO will not have any kits available after the order deadline expires. Students who do not order by the June 8 deadline will need to purchase their supplies independently.

* Fee Waiver Students – if your student is eligible for for tuition assistance through D181 you may be able to apply for a free supply kit to be provided for you. Please contact Mary Chris in the School Office, or Carmel Finnegan, Oak’s Social Worker, to discuss eligibility.

Each kit includes all the items that teachers request for that grade and year. These items are different for each grade but typically include such items as pencils, folders, tissues, wet wipes etc. These items are listed on the school website in the school supplies list by grade.

Go to the Educational Products link provided. Scroll down to lower left Attention Parents Order your Pack now section and enter the school ID Oak058. You will be taken to a webpage where you can purchase supply kits by grade.

Oak School STEAM Lab Raffle

Oak School STEAM Lab Raffle sales ended 4-27-18

Thank you to all the kids and parents who sold raffle tickets!

The winning raffle ticket will be pulled on K-5, We’re Live”: https://livestream.com/ccsd181schools/oakk5 on May 2nd. The drawing will be live at the end of the morning newscast. If you are unable to tune in at 8:30 am you can watch it anytime on the K-5, We’re Live website. Top sellers will also be announced at that time and their prizes will be waiting for them in the office.

Please note that all on-line sales also generated a ticket stub and will be in the raffle drum!

2018/19 School Registration Closes Sunday, May 6

School registration for 2018-19 is now open and will run through Sunday, May 6, 2018!

NEW THIS YEAR

The D181 and Oak PTO fee payment center will be available on the same website – SchoolPay! Before completing payment of your D181 fees, click on the “Nonprofit Groups” tab to register for the Oak PTO for next year! Here you will be able to pay your annual Oak PTO family fee, order yearbooks, and order additional copies of the directory (PTO dues include one complementary printed copy of the directory and online access).

Last Kids Care Club Meeting for the Year!

Hard to believe it’s that time! Our last Kids Care Club meeting is Wednesday, May 2nd. We will wrap us our shark tank projects and celebrate how we made a difference this past year. Donuts will be served. All of the chairs are stepping down from chairing the club after this year. It’s been a wonderful experience for all of us. Thank you for sharing your child with us!
